Build tomorrow. Today.

What we build today defines what we can achieve for years to come. By adding Roper Hall to our current campus, we significantly enhance and expand the capabilities of where our students, staff and faculty learn, teach and practice. As a state-of-the-art and well-equipped learning space, this new structure, slated to open in 2023, will aid the School of Medicine in attracting those who will ultimately learn, thrive and lead from here.

Our goal is to educate medical professionals who can and will enhance the quality of care in North Carolina and beyond with empathy and expertise. An investment of this magnitude in service of that goal will certainly drive every success, achievement and breakthrough that comes next. It’s more important than ever that we take the steps now to keep the UNC School of Medicine on the leading edge of discovery, research and service.

"We endeavor to create a more open, collaborative and innovative environment in which to better prepare future doctors and researchers."

Building For What Comes Next

The UNC School of Medicine’s teaching philosophy, curriculum and facilities have remained unwaveringly patient-centered even as they have evolved to better prepare physician leaders in all specialties. When Berryhill Hall opened its doors in 1970, it was the modern medical teaching facility of its time. Yet, 50 years later, the space remained largely unchanged despite the major innovation and growth within the medical and medical education fields.

It’s on the historic site of Berryhill Hall that we are building a new legacy. Our new medical education building, designed by Flad Architects and SLAM Collaborative, is carefully planned to support academic and clinical excellence, active learning, wellness and a holistic student experience. At 172,000 sq. ft., Roper Hall will allow the UNC School of Medicine to effectively educate more students for tomorrow’s practice.
